I was invited to paint his portrait for the cover of a book of his letters published six years after his passing because I knew him as family and could infuse the work with his engaging personality. It was a great privilege.
The same work is on the cover of the Winter 2010 edition of “Perspectives in Biology and Medicine”, Johns Hopkins University Press.
The original is in private collection, but a print also hangs in the lobby at the Max F. Perutz Laboratory in Vienna, Austria.

When I presented this piece to him, I was terrified of his critique. He was silent for long minutes. I saw his eyes well up and his voice cracked slightly as he declared it a "tour de force"!
